Melanoma Canada, Executive Director Falyn Katz
Our long-awaited summer has taken off in a big way across the country, and our efforts to get the word out about sun safety continue to heat up as well. Recently Dr. Julia Carroll and I participated in a series of CBC radio interviews from Gander, Newfoundland, to Victoria, BC, talking about the importance of our sun awareness program ‘Three Ways to Block the Rays’. A big congrats to the team at Melanoma Canada, on being recognized by the Canadian Dermatology Association as winner, Public Awareness and Education, Non-Profit for this incredible campaign.

We all know by now that sun safety is a year-round challenge for all of us, but particularly in the height of summer, when UV rays are strongest. Help us to spread the message – wear sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and protective clothing. Don’t forget to seek shade in peak UV hours! Sun safety is more important than ever.
- Apply SPF 50+ broad spectrum water resistant sun screen at least 30 minutes before sun-exposure and re-apply every 2 hours
- Seek shade during peak UV radiation peak hours (11:00am-3pm)
- Wear sun protective clothing to cover as much of your body as possible
- Wear a broad-brimmed hat that shades your face, neck and ears
