OAKVILLE, ON, January 12, 2017 –   The Melanoma Network of Canada (MNC) will hold its annual Toronto Melanoma Patient Information Session on February 13th, 2017 at the Michener Institute of Applied Health Sciences.  This session represents the first of 10 planned across Canada with various cancer centres and hospitals.

The information sessions are a chance to learn about the latest developments and treatment options for melanoma and feature presentations on new therapies, coping with a diagnosis, and support services available for patients and caregivers. They also afford an opportunity to hear from the leading experts in the fields of oncology and mental health.

  • Marcus Butler, medical oncologist at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre
  • Rinat Nissim, psychologist at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre
  • Niall McGee, former melanoma patient and reporter with The Globe and Mail

Geared for melanoma patients, families, caregivers and health professionals, the Toronto information session will feature Niall McGee, a reporter with The Globe and Mail in Toronto who was diagnosed with Stage III melanoma in June 2014 at the age of 37. Niall will talk about his published accounts of his two defining experiences as a melanoma patient and survivor.

Other sessions planned for 2017 will take place in Montreal, Ottawa, London, Halifax, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Hamilton and Toronto (Sunnybrook Hospital).  For more information, please visit melanomanetwork.ca.
