May, Melanoma Awareness Month hopes to raise awareness for the very serious and potentially deadly form of skin cancer. Rates of diagnosis continue to rise and over 1,300 Canadians per year die as a result of the disease. Survival is high if melanoma is detected early and unlike many cancers, melanoma is often clearly visible on the skin. Over 85% of melanomas are caused by exposure to Ultra Violet Rays (UV). By practicing 3 Ways to Block the Rays and checking your skin monthly for the ABCDE’s of melanoma and you can help prevent a melanoma diagnosis or ensure early diagnosis.
