Melanoma Canada’s innovative Mole Mobile has made skin cancer screenings more accessible than ever, providing free, potentially life-saving skin checks to thousands of Canadians facing long wait times to see a dermatologist.

Launched on May 1 and wrapping up October 25, 2025, the Mole Mobile tours visited four provinces — Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec — offering early detection and education in communities where access to dermatologists remains limited.

With the partnership and support of the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA), certified Dermatologists volunteered aboard the Mole Mobile to provide screenings, teach sun safety, and emphasize the importance of early detection.

The Canadian Dermatology Association is pleased to have partnered with Melanoma Canada in support of the 2025 Mole Mobile, because of the significant impact it has had on Canadians accessing skin cancer screenings in their communities,” said Dr. Mark Kirchhof, President of the Canadian Dermatology Association.  “Furthermore, the Mole Mobile raised awareness about skin cancer prevention while reinforcing the critical role dermatologists play in Canadian health care, improving patients’ lives through specialized, compassionate care.”

Presented by national sponsor Neutrogena® a Kenvue brand, this year’s tour reached 113 communities, including remote, Indigenous, and underserved areas, as well as urban centres with long wait times to visit a Dermatologist.

Over the six-month tour, Dermatologists screened 8,289 visitors, identifying 961 suspicious lesions (possible skin cancers), including 213 melanomas, the deadliest type of skin cancer. The Mole Mobiles are improving outcomes and potentially saving lives. Melanoma Canada ensures that patients with lesions of concern receive timely follow-up and management, reducing the burden on the healthcare system and helping those most in need.

Brian” Red” Hamilton, Head Equipment Manager for the Vancouver Canucks was first diagnosed with melanoma in 2022 when a Seattle fan spotted a mole on his neck from behind the bench. Since then, Red and his wife Jess, have become advocates for Melanoma Canada, helping raise funds to bring the Mole Mobile to BC. This year, he hopped on board, and to his surprise, another possible melanoma was identified. “Without the Mole Mobile, this melanoma could have been left undetected. This is exactly why Jess and I believe so strongly in bringing these services to communities across Canada.” – Brian “Red” Hamilton, Vancouver Canucks Head Equipment Manager.

What a great program. The line was long, but well worth the wait. Today I had an early-stage melanoma removed from my calf. Grafting was necessary, and I am very grateful to the doctors I have seen regarding this issue. Had I not learned of this program, it may have been too late for a successful outcome.” – Catherine (Ontario Visitor)

The Mole Mobile — the first of its kind in Canada — represents a major step forward in making skin cancer screening accessible nationwide. In addition to screenings, participants received information on self-exams and sun protection to reduce their risk of melanoma and other skin cancers.

Behind every statistic is a Canadian who was seen, reassured, or potentially saved because the Mole Mobile came to their community. It’s an incredible reminder that access and early detection truly matter and that together, we can make a real difference”, said Dr. Julia Carroll, National Chair, Mole Mobile.

Melanoma Canada is thrilled to have partnered with the Canadian Dermatology Association and Dermatologists across the country to bring earlier intervention and prevention education to so many communities. With melanoma incidence and death rates on the rise, and the long wait times to see a Dermatologist (there are only 800 in Canada), the Mole Mobiles are a possible life-saving tool for the more than 200 Canadians who were diagnosed with a possible melanoma on board this year.  — Falyn Katz, CEO, Melanoma Canada
