It is with great pleasure that Melanoma Network of Canada (MNC)  announces Bev Barbour, 2020 Volunteer of the Year. This award is in recognition of Bev’s tireless efforts and outstanding leadership to increase awareness of melanoma, and aiding in prevention efforts. Bev reached out to MNC as she saw a need in her community for education on melanoma and skin cancer. It is because of her dedication that patients and caregivers in her province gained much needed information and support

Bev has contributed countless hours supporting MNC through various volunteer efforts, including  coordinating the Newfoundland Strides for Melanoma Walk and hosting events in support of MNC. Bev is also an active member of MNC’s Patient Advisory Committee, offering her support to patients, and helping to raise awareness about melanoma and skin cancer by speaking with local media and her own network. Bev’s alliance helps MNC provide support and information to patients in Newfoundland. It is through the efforts of volunteers like Bev that MNC can truly be a network uniting the patient voice across Canada.

“Volunteering allows us to connect to our community and make it a better place.  Volunteering is a two-way street: It can benefit us and our family as much as the cause we choose to help. Dedicating our time as a volunteer helps us make new friends, expand our network, and truly make a difference in our life and in the lives of others.  These reasons sparked my passion to volunteer with Melanoma Network of Canada, an organization that I truly believe is there to support those of us living with Melanoma and skin cancer while educating and bringing awareness to the disease – We truly are in this together!” – Bev Barbour
