Let’s be real: Everyone knows they should wear sunscreen, but most people still don’t. And even fewer people remember the most important part: reapplying it.

According to the Canadian Dermatology Association, you should reapply sunscreen every two hours when you’re outside, and always after swimming or sweating. Without reapplication, t the SPF you put on earlier g slowly disappears. That means more sunburn, more hyperpigmentation, faster aging, and long-term skin damage.

Now imagine you are out with friends, having a good time, and suddenly you realize – it has been two hours since you last put on sunscreen. Are you really going to rub a thick lotion all over your face, perhaps on top of your makeup, in public? Most people would say probably not.

But here’s the truth: sunscreen breaks down in the sun and slowly stops protecting you. So if you want your skin to stay flawless and protected, you just need the right tricks to reapply without looking greasy or cakey..

1. Choose a sunscreen that actually feels good on your skin

If your SPF is greasy, thick, or has an unpleasant smell, you likely won’t  want to reapply it. Pick a formula you like;for example: lotions for everyday use, sprays for quick use, sticks for sports or school, or powder for touch-ups over makeup. When it feels good on your skin, reapplying becomes second nature.

2. Keep sunscreen in the places you are most likely see it

Make it convenient: toss one in your backpack, sports bag, car, or locker. Having it within arm’s reach makes it much more likely that you remembe rto reapply it!

3. Build a reapply routine that fits your day

Aim for every 2 hours, or after sweating/swimming. Set a reminder on your phone, or pair SPF with something you already do – like putting it on during lunch break or before heading to your next meeting or class.

4. Don’t forget to protect overlooked areas!

Your ears, neck, hands, shoulders, and hair part burn faster than you think. A quick swipe or spray over these areas keeps you protected and prevents the surprise sunburns everyone hates.

At the end of the day, sunscreen only works if you use it and reapply it. Reapplication isn’t about doing more – it’s about keeping your protection consistent throughout the day. Small, realistic habits go a long way in maintaining the d healthy skin that you’re trying to protect.
