Melanoma Canada offers excellent support through many different avenues for patients and caregivers; one of which is Cancer Coaching. I am lucky to have come across, and benefited from their cancer coaching service. In my case we met on an as needed basis over zoom and by telephone. Key time periods, at diagnosis, during treatment, post treatment, and ad hoc sessions.
The one-on-one meetings provide a very safe place to discuss fears, anxieties, or anything you need help with. I always felt my time with my Melanoma Canada Cancer Coach gave me the opportunity to open up, without feeling like I was being judged. The whole experience was very supportive.
We discussed coping tools to help me navigate my feelings when I had cancer news that presented me with a new challenge or situation. These tools helped me regain a sense of control, and lessen my anxiety (particularly before scans….helps reduce scanxiety!) I find it comforting to know my cancer coaching is available. Cancer can be very isolating and Melanoma Canada’s support services are extremely valuable to my mental health and makes me feel like I am not alone. I would recommend, every patient should try a session if they feel they need it. – Kitty
