Melanoma Canada is thrilled to introduce their Sun Guardians Grant Program. The Programs’ aim is to support daycares, schools, camps, recreation programs, and sports leagues for children and youth; enabling them to deliver sun safe solutions and reduce the risk of skin cancer.

With the generous support of corporate sponsors, foundations, and individual donors, Melanoma Canada strives to equip camps, schools, daycares, youth community centers, and recreational facilities across Canada with essential sun safety tools and education. Our goal is to ensure that all youth, regardless of their location or background, have access to the necessary protection to enjoy outdoor activities safely.

The Sun Guardians Grant Program will provide tailored benefits to each recipient, including sunscreen, UPF clothing, shade structures, UV colour-changing bracelets, UV stickers, sun safety training for staff, posters, and a social media toolkit.

“Skin cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers among young Canadians,” said Falyn Katz, CEO of Melanoma Canada. “UV exposure during childhood significantly heightens the risk of developing melanoma and other skin cancers later in life. Despite this, many youth programs lack adequate resources to implement effective sun protection measures. Our Sun Guardians Grant Program aims to bridge this gap by offering grants for sun safety protection, interactive education, and community outreach.”

Generous contributions will empower youth programs nationwide to adopt and sustain effective sun safety practices, thereby reducing the incidence of skin cancer and promoting lifelong healthy habits among Canadian children.

Melanoma Canada invites partners and supporters to join them in their mission to promote sun safety and prevent skin cancer. Together, we can make a significant and enduring impact on the lives of Canadian children and youth.
