Melanoma Canada is thrilled to announce that Camp Robin Hood has been awarded a custom shade structure valued at $20,000, generously provided by Shade Sales Canada and FLX Shade! This incredible addition to their camp will significantly enhance the outdoor experience for campers, providing much-needed protection from harmful UV rays.

Camp Robin Hood’s dedication to sun safety is truly commendable. As a proud participant in Melanoma Canada’s SUN AWARE Sun Safety Certification Program, Camp Robin Hood has demonstrated a strong commitment to ensuring the health and safety of their campers. Melanoma Canada developed the SUN AWARE program to help protect campers from skin cancer by supporting camp owners, directors, and staff in implementing best practices in sun safety. The program offers free and easy-to-follow training that equips camp staff with the knowledge and tools to create a safer environment for everyone.

Melanoma Canada’s SUN AWARE Sun Safety Certification Program has provided vital sun-safety information to over 500 camps and have over 3,500 camp staff trained on sun safety, all helping to protect more than 300,000 campers. By empowering camps like Robin Hood with the resources they need, we are making significant strides in reducing the risk of melanoma and skin cancer for future generations.

Installing this new shade structure is a testament to Camp Robin Hood’s proactive approach to sun safety. We congratulate them on this win and look forward to seeing its positive impact on their camp community.

We also want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Camp Shalom for earning second place in this year’s contest. The decision was incredibly tough, as Camp Shalom’s commitment to sun safety is equally impressive. Their ongoing efforts to protect their campers from harmful sun exposure have not gone unnoticed, and we commend them for their dedication.

As we continue to expand the reach of our SUN AWARE program, we invite more camps to join us in our mission to protect children and teens from the dangers of excessive sun exposure.  Just one single blistering sunburn before the age of 20 doubles the risk of developing melanoma later in life.  Together, we can create safer environments!

Thank you to all our 2024 participating camps for your dedication to keeping your campers safe while they create fun and lasting memories. Your commitment to sun safety makes a real difference in the lives of countless young people. We’re excited to continue working together to ensure that every camp is a place kids can enjoy the outdoors safely.
